The engagement is announced between Matthew David, elder son of Mr and Mrs David Hope, of Ramsbottom, Lancashire, and Catherine Elizabeth, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Paul Edwards, of Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear.
